It’s Mental Illness Awareness Week! A week “marked by community education efforts in all 50 states to raise awareness that mental illnesses are treatable medical conditions, and that there is help and hope for children and adults with mental illnesses and their families”. In honor of this special week, we’d like to take this time to highlight some amazing organizations that we partner with who are helping to increase access to mental health care here in Jacksonville.
The Mental Health Resource Center (MHRC) “is a Florida nonprofit corporation that provides a wide range of behavioral health and social services to the community”. They offer an array of services like “24-hour emergency services; inpatient psychiatric services for children, adolescents and adults; and numerous outpatient services, including medication management, case management, counseling, supported housing, psychosocial rehabilitation, two programs for the homeless, a therapeutic family program, state hospital liaison services, forensic services, in-jail services, and nine Florida Assertive Community Treatment (FACT) programs for adults with severe and persistent mental illness”. They accept most insurances, including Medicaid and Medicare, and also offer sliding scale rates based on income and household size for those without it. Inspire to Rise is a local community center whose mission is “to inspire and empower children, families, and individuals to rise, overcome, and shine through their most challenging moments in life to become their best self”. They also offer a wide array of services (https://www.weinspiretorise.org/services) like behavioral health, community education, community services, inspiring through the arts, and inspiring through mentorship. They accept most Medicaid plans, and also offer sliding scale rates based on income and household size for those who are out of network or uninsured. The Cohen Veterans Network Inc. is a nonprofit that serves veterans and their families “by providing high-quality, accessible, and integrated mental health care”. Their eligibility guidelines are broad and includes: “anyone who has served in the United States Armed Forces, regardless of role while in uniform, discharge status, or combat experience”, as well as their families – defined as “parents, siblings, spouses or partners, children, caregivers, and others”.
